America’s Next Top Fashion Employee?
The CW has greenlighted an untitled fashion magazine reality series from producers of CW’s No. 1 show, “America’s Next Top Model” and Bravo’s reality hit “Project Runway.”Tyra Banks’ Bankable Productions, Ken Mok’s 10X10 Entertainment, Eli Holzman, and Cha and Gruber’s Full Picture will executive produce the series, which has received an eight-episode order and will begin production in April for a launch in late spring or summer.
The new show, is described as “The Devil Wears Prada” meets “The Assistant,” is a competition show about aspiring assistants looking to become assistant editors at a fashion magazine. At the same time they’re trying to prove themselves as aspiring fashionistas, that they have a sense of style and savvyness, all the things to make it in the fashion world.
In each episode, the contestants will compete in different challenges. In the individual assistant competition, the winner will conceptualize the pairings for a team editorial challenge. In the team editorial challenge, the teams will submit a page for “The Book,” a mock edition of the magazine. The losing team’s page will end up in the trash, and one of its team members will be eliminated. The page from the other team will be included in “The Book.” The winner of the series will land a job in the fashion industry.
To make the show as harmonious to the fashion world as possible, negotiatons are going on with a leading fashion magazine to host the contestants. The magazine’s editors are expected to appear on the series and help judge the challenges.

Mischa Barton's Adventures In Fashion: Bag Ladies Luncheon
Now, before y'all go calling us big old meanies for referring to Mischa Barton here as a "Bag Lady", be reasured that the title of this post does not refer to Ms Barton herself, but to the fact that she actually was attending a Bag Ladies Luncheon - the Lupus LA's Sixth Annual Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon at the Beverly Wiltshore, as a matter of fact: a name that fairly trips of the tounge.
As it happens, Mischa did not turn up at this event looking even remotely like a bag lady, and that's because Mischa is all about the feathers right now. We think she looks drop-dead gorgeous from about the waist up here, and we particularly like the way she picked up the "I'm wearing a tree" theme of the skirt with the darling little leaf headband. It's from the waist down that she kinda lost us, mostly because although those are feathers on her skirt, from a distance they look almost exactly like the branches of the fir trees that grow around Fashion Police HQ. Hey, maybe Mischa could be the fairy on top of our tree this Christmas? We think she would like that.

Celebrity fashion is a perfect occasion for media coverage and a source of profit for designers and other fashion oriented industries. Attaching a famous (popular) face to a line of clothing, perfumes or accessories will boost or ruin sales. Some of these celebrities have unique fashion touches that can become easily identifiable and adopted by the masses. Celebrity fashion is so influential because it springs from the fans’ adulation of the fame status.
The person asserts himself/herself as a fashion icon through little details: Nicole Kidman through her vintage brooches, Dita von Teese through her classic ‘50s dresses and pale skin, Jackie Kennedy through her chic fawn coats and pillbox hats, Jennifer Aniston through her silky hair, Jennifer Lopez through her furs and oversized hats, Beyonce through her sparkly, asymmetrically small outfits. Each of them inspires a certain style that will be adopted by those who enjoy it.
In the last years celebrity fashion took a step further, increasing in popularity and availability. Stars have created their personal lines of clothing, reflecting their personal style. Such are Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, supermodel Kate Moss, singer Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham and many others. Each has more or less accessible fashion items. For example Victoria Beckham designed jeans from very luxurious Japanese denim that retail at $280. At the other end, Sarah Jessica Parker’s line, called “Bitten”, is specifically made to be widely accessible, with items that do not cross $20 and come in sizes from 0 to 22.
Realizing the importance of a famous face attached to a product, important companies like Coca-Cola, Nike, Apple or L’Oreal convinced stars to endorse their products - because celebrities vouching for the quality of an item will influence the customer’s behavior.

The game raised more than $100,000 for victims of the recent Southern California wildfires. A silent auction and other donations helped raise an additional $7,500 for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. So the Council of Fashion Designers of America CFDA has again banded together several fashion retailers to raise awareness and funds to support medical research, screening, education and patient care. Ac.Stet likes the fact that it is a noble effort, which began in 1994, on the part of CFDA in lending its gloss to philantrophic do’s to the less fortunate.
Although, as all fashion media goes, Ac.Stet is acutely aware the repercussions of putting out such a print ad. The image composition is magnificent, all long-limbed nymphs in bikini bottoms. And in limited color blocks
Ac.Stet’s not just talking about the color of their baby-tees. There are whites (model Sasha, Daria Werbowy, Lily C, Lily D), and er, yellow/olive (Chinese import Du Juan).
So … where’s the black rep? Or a Hispanic rep?
Ac.Stet is not being nitpicky here.
Come on, in FTBC’s case, if Fashion REALLY targets breast cancer, they would have done due diligence on the medical condition that accounts for 2% of all deaths nationwide and would have known that:
African Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanic whites are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced stages of breast cancer tumors than non-Hispanic whites and Asian/Pacific Islanders.
Japanese and Chinese females have better breast cancer survival rates while Hawaiian and Mexican women had 30% poorer survival rates when compared to non-Hispanic whites.
African Americans, Native Americans and Hispanic whites faced a 10-70% greater risk of death after a breast cancer diagnosis as compared to non-Hispanic whites.
The figures are taken from a 2003 study undertaken by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Data from 125,000 women representing all major racial, and ethnic populations and subpopulations, in the US were evaluated. Data for the study came from 11 tumor registries that are a part of the National Cancer Institute’s SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results) program.
A more recent study, published this year in the Sep 15, 2007 issue of CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, echoes similar results mentioned in the 2003 study. So, for this FTBC campaign - and others before it - why are white and almost white fashion models used to represent the fight against breast cancer, when the very women they are trying to help are of skin tones distinctly remote from theirs?
This is surely a gross misrepresentation of reality. Has the campaign overlooked substance for style? … … Perhaps, just perhaps …. the campaign’s press agency, KCD, must be screwing up again.

Yesterday they received their first public mocking when daytime TV talk show hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa - America's answer to Richard and Judy - mimicked them live on air.
Considered talk show royalty across America, the couple are not known for their insults, preferring to embrace and encourage the celebrity culture.
But the pair had their surprised audience in stitches as Regis adopted a gormless-looking expression while Kelly struck a hands-on-hips pose and pouted right into the camera.
David, 32, should have no problems with his popularity but Victoria, 33, could find she has an uphill struggle on her hands trying to promote herself across the Atlantic as a fashion expert and talk show host.

Her reality TV show - Victoria Beckham: Coming To America - which follows Posh around LA, airs next Monday and she managed to rope in hubby to pose with her for a provocative shoot for W Magazine.
She told the magazine: "I think people people are really going to see me for the first time.
"I think they have this impression that I'm this miserable cow who doesn't smile. But I'm actually quite the opposite."
But Melanie Bromley of Us Weekly magazine was unconvinced, saying: "Victoria will have to get some personality, she's a slightly two-dimensional character for Americans."
